Rabat – Former Moroccan player Mustapha Hadji will be part of a committee that will assist at the Morocco 2025 final draw, which will take place tonight in Rabat.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the committee list, which also includes footballers Serge Aurier, Aliou Cisse, and Joseph Yobo.
“Hadji is renowned as one of Morocco’s greatest ever players and was named African Footballer of the Year in 1998,” CAF recalled, noting that the former iconic player won 3 caps for Morocco, scoring 12 goals.
“He netted the winner for Morocco against Egypt at the 1998 TotalEnergies CAF AFCON, the only team to inflict a defeat on the eventual champions. He also played at the 2000 finals,” CAF added.
CAF quoted Hadji, on Sunday, who believed that AFCON Morocco 2025 will be a “major chance” for the North African country to prove the Atlas Lions’ proficiency on and off the pitch.
“I feel good, still euphoric. We have to stay positive. You know, the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON is something exceptional, an extraordinary experience,” CAF said, adding that he was lucky to experience it as a player.
“Today, the African continent continues to progress, and the level of the spectacle is simply remarkable,” he added, recalling Morocco’s modern infrastructure mirrored by its advancement in other fields.
“It was time for Morocco to host this great competition again,” he said, noting that King Mohammed VI contributed to the development of football across Africa.
“Thanks to his vision, our country is now a key player in world football,” Hadji added.
Morocco’s Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat will host the draw final at 7 p.m. local time, bringing in football legends and media from around the world.
Moroccan singer Hatim Hammor and renowned producer Nadir Khayat, known by his stage name RedOne, will ignite the AFCON draw floor with their performances tonight along with French-Congolese star Maitre Gims.
