Ambassador Amrani Renews Morocco’s Congratulations to Trump

Moroccan ambassador to the US Youssef Amrani has re-extended Morocco’s congratulations to Donald Trump, who was sworn in on Monday during a festive inauguration at the capitol.

The ambassador shared on his X a video message in which he expressed satisfaction with attending the inauguration of Trump as the 47th President of the US.

“On this occasion, I would like to recall the message of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to President Trump, congratulating him and wishing the president every success in his presidency duties,” Amrani said, emphasizing the importance of bilateral ties between the two countries.

He recalled Morocco being the first country to recognize US independence, noting that the North African kingdom remains committed to strengthening this historical and ever-evolving alliance at all levels.

“We see immense opportunities to expand our bilateral relations across key areas from advancing security and economic relations to fostering cultural exchange and innovation,” Amrani said.

He stressed the two countries’ determination to tackle challenges and issues of shared interests, noting Morocco’s commitment to work with the new administration to deepen ties in strategic areas.

Trump’s comeback has been met with satisfaction in the Moroccan political landscape as the president-elect’s former administration recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara in December 2020.

He announced the decision a few weeks before Biden took office as the 46th President of the United States.

Since then, relations between Morocco and the US witnessed strengthened bilateral ties on different fronts — especially counterterrorism and trade.

Following Trump’s latest victory in the presidential elections this past November, King Mohammed VI sent him his heartfelt congratulations and expressed his hope to see US-Morocco ties strengthened in all areas.

The Moroccan monarch described Trump’s Western Sahara proclamation as a memorable moment and a historic turning point in US-Morocco relations, stressing: “The values we share and our common interests across a broad range of sectors have allowed us to work together consistently to build a better future for our peoples, making our relationship a driving force for peace, security, and prosperity in the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.”
