Rabat – Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki expressed, on Saturday, heartfelt gratitude to King Mohammed VI for his steadfast support of the Palestinian cause. Al-Maliki recognized Morocco’s important role in advocating for peace in the region.

Speaking at the 16th edition of MEDays forum in Tangier, he commended the King’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause through Bayt Mal Al Quds Agency’s initiatives. The Palestinian minister also commended Morocco’s solidarity with his people, commenting that it “is a source of strength and pride for the Palestinians.”

Al-Maliki called attention to the brotherly relations that bond the two countries, stating that the Moroccan monarch and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas are aligned on a shared vision, diagnosis, and approach surrounding the Palestinian cause.

The comments come as the King has been expressing on multiple occasions his support, reaffirming Morocco’s engagement in both political advocacy and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.

The King’s solidarity with the Palestinian cause has also been reiterated on multiple occasions in remarks by Moroccan officials around the world.

Morocco’s ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti, Nezha Alaoui M’hammdi, expressed her country’s support recently on the  International Day of Solidarity with Palestine. The ambassador gave her remarks at a commemorative event held in Addis Ababa at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

Alaoui M’hammdi renewed Morocco’s commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

During the World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Board session in Rome, held from November 18 to 21, Morocco called for “urgent action to secure an immediate and pressing ceasefire in Gaza.”

Earlier this year, given the devastating plight of Palestinians amidst the genocide, King Mohammed VI ordered the deployment of humanitarian aid for Gaza, an initiative that benefited 2,000 families in the besieged enclave.

The situation in Gaza is worsening, with Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continually bombing  refugee camps and residential areas. The IOF has reportedly killed at least 45 Palestinians today since dawn.

The death toll from Israel’s ongoing genocide on Gaza has reached over 45,159,  since October 7, 2023, with many more missing presumed dead under the rubble.

Although a recent ceasefire deal has been agreed upon between Israel and Lebanon this past week, a subsequent deal for Gaza still seems to be nowhere in sight.
