Rabat – A 17-year-old minor is among the four suspects that police arrested on Tuesday in coordination with services from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) for their alleged involvement in a case of drug and psychotropic pills possession and trafficking.
A statement from police said the security operation took place in the rural area of Ait Guennoun near Khemisset.
Search and inspection operations enabled police to seize 4,500 psychotropic polls and money in national and foreign currencies.
The money is believed to be part of the suspects’ drug trafficking crimes, a security source said.
Police also seized two cars and a motorcycle suspected to have been used in drug trafficking.
The three adults are in custody for further investigations while the minor was placed under surveillance as part of an ongoing investigation to arrest potential accomplices and reveal the ramifications of the case.
Recently, Morocco made several major drug busts, arresting individuals and seizing large quantities of drugs.
Last month, police seized 9.8 tons of cannabis and arrested six suspects in just one operation.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s police handled last year 92,346 drug-related cases, arresting 119,692 individuals. Of those arrested, 287 were foreign nationals, the report detailed.
Police also seized 123 tons and 971 kilograms of cannabis in different operations across the country, as well as 1.9 tons of cocaine, 16.5 kilograms of heroin, and over 1.4 million of psychotropic substances.
