Three people died in a tragic crash on Thursday on the highway between Kenitra and the Bouknadel exit in Sale.

The crash happened when a staff transport vehicle from the Technopolis industrial zone in Sale flipped over and landed on the opposite lane. 12 sustained injuries, with five in critical condition.

Early reports say the crash may have occurred due to a tire burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicule.

Emergency teams rushed to the scene and transported the injured to Moulay Abdellah Hospital in Sale.

Authorities have opened an investigation to find out the exact cause of the crash.

In recent weeks, road safety has been a growing concern. From February 3 to 9, 27 people died and 2,873 were injured in 2,126 accidents in urban areas, reports the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

Most accidents happen due to driver errors like not giving way, speeding, or driving under the influence. The DGSN also noted that it has issued 53,792 traffic fines in the same week, bringing in over MAD 9.8 million ($980,000).
