Rabat – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS) have formed a partnership this week aiming to advance inclusive and sustainable industrial development in developing countries as well as economies in transition.

The collaboration was officially announced on June 6, at the PCNS headquarters in Rabat.

The partnership agreement was signed by Hanan Hanzaz; UNIDO’s Director General Special Representative for the Arab Region and Chief of the Regional Bureau for Arab States, and Karim El Aynaoui; Executive President of the Policy Center for the New South.

Under the terms of the agreement, UNIDO and PCNS will work together on policy research, policy advice, and capacity-building initiatives in key areas critical for industrial development.

The collaboration will cover the development of industrial policies and strategies, structural transformation and productivity enhancement, and industrial decarbonization.

The two institutions are equally set to collaborate on sustainable supply chain management, the promotion of circular economies, advancements in science, technology, and innovation, as well as the digitalization of industries, and climate action strategies.

According to PCNS, the partnership particularly focuses on addressing the unique challenges faced by Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), ensuring that industrial development efforts benefit the most vulnerable populations.

PCNS is a Moroccan think tank dedicated to improving economic and social public policies in Morocco and across Africa, focusing on the global South.

The PCNS collaborates with a network of researchers and partners worldwide, hosting various events throughout the year, including the notable “Atlantic Dialogues.”
