Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, reaffirmed today the country’s belief in the potential of Southern countries to renew and accelerate their development during the third edition of the South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum in Rabat.

Bourita, represented by Fouad Yazoug, Ambassador and Director General of International Political Affairs, emphasized the need for Southern countries to strengthen interregional cooperation and build strategic, solidarity-based partnerships.

He noted that the forum is part of Morocco’s ongoing support for initiatives that promote collaboration among Southern countries.

The minister stressed that this forum builds on the success of its inaugural edition three years ago and represents a strong political will to deepen diplomatic ties. It reflects the collective commitment of Southern nations to work together, especially in the face of complex global challenges, he added.

The forum’s theme, “Interregional and Continental Dialogues in the Global South,” addresses key issues such as peace, security, and sustainable development. Bourita expressed hope that the discussions would lead to actionable recommendations for countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Arab world.

With participants from 13 parliamentary unions and 25 nations, the forum underlines the immense potential for shared growth, technological innovation, and economic transformation. Bourita reiterated that Morocco’s approach is grounded in mutual development, respecting the needs of each nation while promoting regional collaboration.

Morocco has launched several initiatives, including the Atlantic African States project and the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, demonstrating its commitment to practical South-South cooperation.

Bourita also referenced King Mohammed VI’s call for Africa to set realistic, actionable goals, emphasizing that concrete actions are now required to advance peace and human development.

Bourita concluded by expressing confidence in the forum’s ability to drive meaningful progress, fostering lasting partnerships that will contribute to the shared development goals of Southern nations.

Morocco has consistently affirmed its commitment to South-South cooperation, viewing it as a cornerstone of its foreign policy. Through concrete initiatives and diplomatic efforts, the country has championed solidarity and mutual development among Southern nations.
