Rabat – Driscoll’s Maroc, a subsidiary of the US-based berry producer, has launched the construction of a berry processing facility in Larache, located within the Loukkos agricultural hub.
The construction launch took place under the supervision of Larache Province Governor, Bouassam El Alamine, representatives from the Regional Investment Center of the Tangier-Tetouan-Alhucemas Region (CRITTA), and other key stakeholders, according to a report from agriculture-focused website Fresh Plaza.
Spanning over 5 hectares, the facility represents an investment of approximately MAD 150 million ($14.9 million). Once operational, the plant is expected to generate more than 500 direct jobs.
In a statement, Driscoll said that local authorities have been instrumental in facilitating the project’s progression, offering steadfast support from its inception to the acquisition of land and swift permit approvals.
Driscoll’s Maroc expressed gratitude for their collaboration, citing the Regional Investment Center’s invaluable assistance in navigating regulatory processes and ensuring a smooth transition.
“The support and professionalism demonstrated by local authorities have been pivotal in our decision to invest in Larache,” said a spokesperson for Driscoll’s Maroc. “Their proactive approach and foresight have been instrumental in advancing our project goals.”
With an established presence in Morocco, Driscoll’s Maroc anticipates fruitful outcomes from this collaboration, echoing the success of its existing plant in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region.
