Rabat – The Rabat International Book Fair saw a fan frenzy on Saturday as Saudi novelist Osama Muslim’s book signing event drew crowds so dense that it prompted fair management to intervene.
The sudden influx of visitors reached a staggering 23,000 in a single day, compared to an average of 8,000 a day.
Osama Muslim, a relatively unknown figure in literary circles outside Saudi Arabia, made a significant impact at the fair.
The chaos caused by the massive crowds prompted the security of the International Book and Publishing Fair in Rabat to stop the signing ceremony. Overcrowding resulted in stampede and fainting among fans.
The Saudi writer announced through his social media accounts that the event security requested him to leave the fair, where he apologized to his followers and readers.
Consisting of youth and women, the crowd lined up in long queues to see the Saudi content creator, who was promoting his novel “Fear” through his social media platform.
Born in Al-Ahsa City in 1977, Muslim spent his formative years in the United States before returning to Saudi Arabia to pursue higher education. With a background in English literature, he has since carved out a niche for himself as a prolific writer, releasing a remarkable 17 novels to date.
Among his notable works are the “Fear” series and the “Gardens of Arabia” saga, both of which have captivated readers with their imaginative narratives and rich storytelling.
Observers note that the author’s newfound fame follows the hype he received from online influencers on social media platforms including TikTok and Instagram.
