Rabat – The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), in partnership with the Association for the Promotion of Moroccan-Korean Cooperation (AMACO), today donated 315 items of sports and office equipment to the Al Wafaa Association for Social and Cultural Development in Sidi Taibi, Kenitra.

The handover ceremony took place today at the Sidi Taibi commune headquarters. Hyewon Cho, KOICA’s Resident Representative in Morocco, joined Mohamed Moussa, President of AMACO, and Yassin Hafid, President of Al Wafaa Association, to sign the official donation certificate.

The package included tablet chairs, a desk, a printer, sports vests, footballs, basketballs, and other materials specifically selected to furnish a newly established training center for Positive Parenting Education and to support youth development programs.

Speaking at the event, Cho said that KOICA is committed to its belief that sport and education are fundamental drivers of personal growth and social cohesion. He added that with this donation, the agency aims to enrich extracurricular activities and empower both children and their families with the tools they need to cultivate their physical, social, and mental capacities.

After the ceremony, “children laced up their shoes and poured onto the field, kicking off their first football match with the new donated equipment, showing contagious excitement and renewed energy,” said KOICA in a press release.

This development comes as bilateral relations between Morocco and Korea continue to strengthen across diplomatic and economic fronts. Seoul today took a pro-Morocco stance regarding the Western Sahara issue and acknowledged the country’s Autonomy Plan presented to the UN Secretary-General in April 2007.

“Korea takes note of the Moroccan autonomy proposal presented in April 2007 to the Secretary-General of the UN and welcomes serious and credible Moroccan efforts to move the process forward towards a resolution of this issue,” the statement declared.

This diplomatic endorsement marks a significant milestone in the growing political affinity between the two countries, which have been keen on strengthening cooperation in various sectors.

Korea’s flagship rolling-stock manufacturer Hyundai Rotem recently announce a landmark agreement with Morocco’s National Railway Office (ONCF). The MAD 15 billion (approximately USD 1.5 billion) contract, the largest ever awarded to the company, will supply double-deck train sets capable of speeds up to 160 km/h.

These new trains are set to link Casablanca with key urban centers across Morocco, modernizing the rail network in time for the country’s co-hosting of the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
