Rabat – Air Arabia Maroc, a low-cost carrier, is expanding its offerings in Morocco by launching new direct flights from its new airport base in Rabat linking the Moroccan capital to five European destinations.
Starting May 1, 2024, passengers can travel between the Rabat-Sale Airport and five European cities, including Barcelona, Brussels, Basel, Paris, and Istanbul, according to a report from Aviator24.
The company’s decision to increase the flow of flights meets the rising demand for affordable travel between Morocco and Europe.
Air Arabia Maroc operates over 65 routes from seven bases in Morocco including Rabat, Tetouan, Casablanca, Nador, Oujda, Fez, and Tangier. The company uses a fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft.
The news comes less than a month after the company announced the launch of four new routes from a brand new base in Tetouan, starting on March 31st, 2024. These new connections will link the Moroccan cities to Barcelona, Malaga, Brussels, and Madrid.
Air Arabia Maroc is not the only company working to increase its offering in Morocco. Since the announcement of Morocco’s joint bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, a list of companies announced plans to expand operations ahead of the anticipated rise in demand for flights.
In December 2023, Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair unveiled a $1.4 billion investment plan to bolster its presence in Morocco. The funds will be used to increase Ryanair’s flights to 1,100 weekly flights across 175 routes, featuring 35 new connections.
Ryanair said that its debut in the Moroccan domestic market will see the company operating 11 internal routes. The company’s Summer 2024 schedule is set to cater to over 5 million passengers, a 33% surge in traffic to, from, and now within Morocco.
Ryanair equally announced the establishment of a fourth Moroccan base in Tangier under a $200 million investment plan and the introduction of two aircraft. In addition, Ryanair’s flights will now extend to Beni-Mellal and Errachidia airports.
