Turkish football club Galatasaray announced today the start of treatment for Moroccan football player Hakim Ziyech, who caught an ankle injury during a match with Morocco’s national team as part of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Providing more details on Ziyech’s injury, the Turkish club said the Atlas Lion joined h Galatasary on Saturday, February 3 after Morocco’s elimination from the continental tournament.
Upon his arrival in Istanbul, Ziyech underwent a medical assessment on Sunday where he was diagnosed with a severe ankle sprain on his left ankle, the Turkish club detailed.
The injury features stretching and straining of the inner and outer ankle ligaments and syndesmosis as well as bone edema detected in the ankle bones.
The Turkish club concluded its statement by stressing that Ziyech has started his treatment protocol.
The Moroccan player caught an ankle injury during Morocco’s AFCON game against Zambia on January 24.
The ankle injury put him out of contention for Morocco’s decisive round of 16 match against South Africa, which the Moroccan Atlas Lions lost 2-0.
A key player for Morocco’s national team, Ziyech has consistently featured in Moroccan squads for major tournaments. He notably played and won plaudits as Morocco made history at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Ziyech joined Galatasaray from Chelsea in August last year.
