Rabat – Morocco has consistently affirmed its commitment to the principles of Africa’s effective solidarity, unity, and common destiny, said Omar Hilale, Morocco’s permanent representative to the United Nations.
Speaking at the 3rd G77+China Summit in Kampala on Monday, Hilale shed light on the number of structural projects and initiatives Morocco is spearheading to achieve regional integration in Africa.
Beyond spearheading economic initiatives, the country is equally giving major importance to establishing strategic partnerships through an integrated and comprehensive approach.
Hilale explained that this approach is based on principles of solidarity, co-development, and the establishment of peace and stability. Morocco’s ambitious structural cooperation projects in Africa span a number of strategic sectors such as agriculture, health, energy, and infrastructure, he insisted
The Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline project is a flagship example of this strategic direction, he said, explaining that it serves as a lever for regional integration to create conditions for common economic takeoff and initiate a dynamic conducive to the development of Africa’s Atlantic front.
Likewise, the Atlantic African States Initiative, launched by Morocco alongside 22 African countries, is also part of projects aiming to achieve regional integration, he continued.

He explained that this initiative aims to establish an institutional framework for consultations on strategic issues to strengthen security, stability, and common prosperity in the region.
Hilale equally touched on a number of international initiatives announced by King Mohammed VI dedicated to facilitating the access of Sahel States to the Atlantic Ocean. He specified that, as part of this initiative, Morocco has made its road, port, and rail infrastructure available to these states.
The initiative serves as a pragmatic platform promoting the development of infrastructure in Sahel countries, connecting them to the transport and communication networks of their region, with the aim of contributing to the opening of these states and achieving the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), he explained.
In addition, Morocco has placed issues of food security and climate change at the heart of its cooperation relations with partners, especially in Africa, he said. Hilale highlighted Morocco’s launching of large-scale projects for fertilizer production in several countries and its contribution to achieving food security by providing affordable fertilizers.
While delivering an address to the assembly, Hilale called for stronger cooperation and greater solidarity among the group’s member states and for boosting multilateral cooperation.
“We are not only required to renew our commitment to ‘Leave no one behind’ but also to implement this commitment effectively at the national and international levels by effectively implementing the 2030 Agenda and contributing concretely to injecting a new dynamic into regional and international cooperation,” said Hilale.
The 3rd Summit of the Group of 77+China opened on Sunday in the Ugandan capital under the theme “Leave no one behind.”
