Rabat – The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament has now entered the second round, where the renowned teams of Guinea and Gambia will play each other in a race to qualify to the next tournament stage.
The two teams will meet today at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium of Yamoussoukro, with the game beginning at 9:00 p.m. Moroccan Time.
The game will also be broadcast on Sky Sports Premier League and streamed via the Sky Go application for its subscribers.
Placed in group C alongside football giants Senegal and Cameroon, the two teams will have to double their efforts to “keep their chin up” in such a challenging group.
The Guinean squad seemed to have done so in their first test against Cameroon, ending the game in a 1-1 tie. However, their Gambian counterpart was not so lucky, and experienced a heavy 3-0 defeat against the defending champion Senegal.
According to the Egyptian daily Ahram Online, before the start of the tournament, Guinea’s head coach Kaba Diawara showed confidence in his team as they prepared to make a big impression at the 2023 AFCON.
“We have high ambitions for this competition. Our team has been in the making for the past two years, and this will be my second AFCON experience,” Diawara told CAF Online.
