Rabat – Mohammed VI performed the Friday prayers today at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Mosque in the city of Sale, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan.
The preacher began the Friday sermon by emphasizing the importance of water and invoking its blessing, which he said is “the spirit of every living creature, the secret of existence, and the essence of every developmental activity.”
This sermon comes as Morocco grapples with a prolonged water shortage due to the severe droughts that have struck several regions in the North African country in recent months.
Since water is of such importance to mankind, the preacher argued, Islam requires Muslims to dispose of it wisely, manage it in the best way, and regulate the ways of dealing with it, all of which revolve around not using it to excess.
According to the preacher, King Mohammed VI’s recent instructions to the government and local authorities to ensure the optimal use of water resources across Morocco is in line with the divine commandment to use water wisely.
In concluding his Friday sermon with a call for good water management, the preacher emphasized that scholars consider the excessive use of water an abomination that Muslims should avoid. Saving water is part of the piety of receiving the blessings of the heavens and the earth, he stressed.
