Rabat – Morocco secured a hard-fought victory over Tanzania in the quarterfinals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The match, played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, remained goalless for the first 65 minutes.

The breakthrough came in the 65th minute when Oussama Lamlioui scored the only goal of the game, giving Morocco the lead.

His strike, a well-placed finish following a quick build-up, sent Moroccan fans into celebration and gave the visitors the crucial lead.

Tanzania pushed for an equalizer in the final stages. But despite their determination and support from their home crowd, they could not find the net as Morocco’s defense held firm and ensured their victory.

This win sends Morocco through to the semifinals, keeping their hopes alive for a third CHAN title.

Morocco will now prepare for the semifinal clash, as they aim to continue their strong performance in the tournament.

Ahead of the game, Morocco’s head coach Tarik Sektioui commended his team’s performance, particularly their focus, adaptability, and mental strength under pressure.

The coach said he came into the match confident despite playing away in front of Tanzania’s home crowd. “The crowd will give us energy too. Football without fans is worth nothing,” he commented.

Tanzania, though disappointed, can take pride in their spirited campaign. Led by coach Hamad Suleiman, the “Cinderella” squad of the tournament proved they could face the odds and compete with some of Africa’s strongest teams.
