Rabat – Israel’s embassy in Seoul has removed a video it produced of masked assailants it likened to Hamas attacking the Korean capital, after the country’s government expressed disapproval of the video.
The video was shared on Tuesday and taken down on Wednesday, with Korea’s Foreign Affairs Ministry confirming that it asked the diplomatic representation to take it down.
“The killing and kidnapping of Israeli civilians by Hamas cannot be justified, but the Israeli Embassy’s production and distribution of a video drawing parallels to the security situation in another country was deemed inappropriate,” the ministry said.
“We have conveyed our position to the Israeli Embassy in Korea, and the Israeli side has taken measures to delete the video in question,” they added.
The video depicted a Korean woman going about her day before receiving a warning on her phone and seeing the city of Seoul be drowned in gunfire and explosions.
The footage also shows her being abducted and separated from her daughter by a group of masked assailants before a subtitle reads: “Imagine if it happened to you. What would you do?”
The embassy said they made the video to “help South Koreans in East Asia, far away from Israel, understand the current war situation.”
Since October 7, Israel has been engaged in a relentless war against Gaza and Palestinian civilians, killing over 20,000 people so far, including 8,000 children.
They have also targeted civilian infrastructure such as hospitals, refugee camps, and schools, with growing international disapproval at their targeting of civilians.
The UN has also warned that 40% of Gaza’s residents are at risk of famine in the Gaza Strip, with “catastrophic” levels of hunger.
