Rabat – Palestinian activists have once again raised concerns about the inhumane treatment that Gazan women prisoners face in Israeli jails.

The Palestinian Wafa news agency quoted concerns from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority, which denounced the inhumane conditions in Israeli jails that female prisoners have been subjected to since October 7.

The  news outlet quoted the Authority’s lawyers, who said that Palestinian women from Gaza  have been facing torture and abuse from “the first moment of arrest.”

This includes beatings, insults, strip searches, solitary confinement, as well as deprivation of basic rights.

The authority said that all female prisoners face similar inhumane treatment, including the confiscation of their clothes “replaced with summer attire.”

In addition, female detainees have been facing relentless physical assaults as well as verbal abuse.

The news agency highlighted a case of an elderly woman from Gaza who was beaten by Israeli occupation forces despite using a cane to walk.

“She was brought to prison without a hijab, with her face covered in blood,” the authority highlighted.

A Gaza mother was also detained while she was accompanied by four of her young children.

She was forced to hand them over to an unknown man before being taken by Israeli occupation forces.

“The documented testimonies represent only a fraction of the reality as prison authorities purposefully isolate Gaza detainees from others and the outside world,” the news agency quoted the authority as saying.

Israeli occupation forces continue to target civilians across Gaza and the occupied West Bank through violent raids and arbitrary arrests since October 7.

The devastating situation comes amid a disastrous war waged by Israel, which has killed over 19,000 Palestinians while injuring 50,000 others.
