Rabat – Irish airline company Ryanair is planning to launch 24 new international air routes to and from Morocco, in addition to 11 domestic routes, according to converging reports.

With plans to start the project in the summer of 2024, the company is also considering dedicating two aircrafts to the city of Tangier.

This project is part of the company’s plans to double the number of its annual passengers in Morocco to more than 10 million passengers by 2027, as the country is preparing to host the 2030 World Cup along with Spain and Portugal.

Ryanair aims to implement this project with the support of Morocco’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics, as well as the Ministry of Tourism.

Commenting on the air transport sector in Morocco, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy Fatim-Zahra Ammor, said that the sector “has witnessed exceptional growth in recent years.”

This growth, the minister added, is set to “contribute significantly to achieving the goals of the tourism roadmap, which aspires to attract 17.5 million tourists by 2026.”

She went on to say that domestic travel has also been given particular consideration, since it will experience significant growth as a result of this new dynamic.

As part of this development strategy, the government will allow Ryanair to operate specific domestic flights between some Moroccan cities.

For his part, Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdel Jalil, stated that Ryanair’s new program will include the opening of eleven new domestic routes linking nine Moroccan destinations in Agadir, Errachidia, Essaouira, Fez, Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Oujda, Tangier, and Tetouan.

The new flights will contribute significantly to alleviating the geographical isolation of some Moroccan cities such as Ouarzazate, Essaouira, and Errachidia, allowing tourists to access them more easily.

The company is also planning to open new routes from eight strategic foreign markets such as Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

The company is targeting six Moroccan destinations, namely Marrakech with nine new routes, Tangier with eight, Agadir with three, Beni Mellal with two, and new routes in Fez and Rabat.
