Rabat – The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with three prominent international entities during the inaugural “International Campus of Excellence Africa” on December 6 and 7, at the UM6P campus in Ben Guerir.

The two-day event aims to bring together prominent personalities alongside young leaders for exchange and debate to encourage the emulation of relevant and transformative ideas.

On the inaugural day, UM6P partnered with the African Women Leaders’ Network (AWLN), a continental platform championing women’s leadership in Africa for peace and sustainable development.

The MoU, signed by UM6P President Hicham El Habti and Bineta Diop, the African Union’s Special Envoy on Women, Peace, and Security, aims to elevate opportunities in areas such as quality education and high-impact jobs.

The collaboration with AWLN strives to enable access to quality education for young African women, encouraging scientific studies through ongoing support, and fostering partnerships to increase UM6P’s visibility across the continent.

A scholarship program is also set to facilitate access to UM6P programs for young African girls in high school and university.

Diop affirmed that the program aims to benefit African women, young girls, and even young boys by encouraging displays of positive masculinity.

Also present at the signing was Gameenah Gurib-Fakim, the first female president of Mauritius, who hailed the agreement as “a very important moment” in African history.

Thanks to the initiative, “we are showing the world that with an African agenda, with African means, with African institutions, with African talent, especially female talent, we can transform Africa,” Gurib-Fakim added.

UM6P has also joined forces with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), Spain’s national supercomputing hub renowned for managing MareNostrum, one of Europe’s most powerful supercomputers.

The MoU, signed by El Habti and BSC Director Mateo Valero, outlines areas of cooperation ranging from encouraging student studies to collaborative research and fundraising efforts.

Additionally, the university solidified ties with the Royal European Academy of Doctors (RAED).

An MoU, signed by El Habti and RAED’s Vice-President Maria del Angels Calvo Torras, emphasizes collaborative efforts in studying, research, and the development of academic programs.
