Rabat – As the truce between Israel and Hamas enters its fifth day, Israel released 33 Palestinians, including 30 children and three women.
The Palestinian hostages were freed in exchange for 11 Israeli hostages from Gaza, according to a report from the Guardian.
The Israel Prison Service said the Palestinian prisoners were released from Israel’s Ofer prison located in the West Bank and from a detention center in Jerusalem.
Since the beginning of the truce on Friday, Israel has released 150 Palestinian hostages that were held in its prisons.
While fighting in Gaza halted in the past five days, an Israeli shell targeted the southern Lebanese town of Aita al-Shaab, Lebanon’s state news agency reported.
On the first day of the Qatar-mediated ceasefire, reports also indicated violations from Israel, as the occupying forces shot Palestinians who attempted to return to their home in northern Gaza.
Two Palestinians were killed, while 11 others were injured, Al Jazeera reported.
The news outlet quoted a journalist from AP who said he saw the two bodies and the wounded as they arrived at a hospital.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that the ceasefire is only temporary, with his cabinet issuing a statement saying that the army is preparing to start hostilities once the truce is over.
