Rabat – The Mozambique Football Federation has just confirmed that their national side will be taking on Morocco in a friendly match on November 14th. The FMRF hasn’t officially confirmed it yet, however.

The game is slotted in for the FIFA international break which runs between November 10 to 18, and is just one of the many steps Mozambique are taking to get ready for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Mozambique federation has announced that they will be holding a full training camp in the international window to get the team in top shape for AFCON & to make some final fine-tuning just before the tournament.

The friendly against Morocco will be a great chance for head coach Chiquinho Conde to test out a few different things and see how his players stack up against one of the top teams on the continent.

The FMF has also hinted that we can expect another friendly to be announced fairly soon — all part of their preparation plan it seems.

Why this friendly is important

For Morocco, this is their last chance to play in front of their home fans before AFCON kicks off. It’ll be a good chance for coach Walid Regragui to try out a few different formations and get a better idea of how his players are shaping up fitness-wise.

Many might criticize the choice of a relatively weaker national team than Morocco, but Mozambique is actually a tough and competitive team to play against.

For the Atlas Lions, this is all part of their countdown to the big event where they’re keen to put in a strong performance in front of their own fans.

For Mozambique, facing the host nation is good practice for AFCON. And it’s not an easy group by the way — they’ll have Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Gabon to contend with. So they’re going to need every bit of preparation they can get.

The Mozambique Football Federation hasn’t said which stadium in Agadir the match will be held at yet, but we should be hearing more from the Moroccan Football Federation soon — including ticket info.

Both sides should treat this as a bit more than just a friendly, more like a warm-up ahead of the big event;  a chance to run through some things, make a few adjustments, and get some momentum going before the AFCON kicks off in December.
