Rabat — Morocco’s Prosecutor General Hicham Belaoui met with Kenya’s Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga in Rabat on Monday to advance judicial cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting brought together Belaoui, who serves as Attorney General at the Court of Cassation and heads the Public Prosecution Service, with Ingonga and his accompanying delegation during their working visit to Morocco.

According to a statement from the Public Prosecution Service, both sides reviewed ways to activate a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that the two institutions signed in February 2023.

The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in fighting transnational organized crime, with particular focus on cybercrime, bribery, money laundering, and human trafficking.

The talks produced concrete agreements on future collaboration. The two countries will exchange official working visits between their prosecution services and launch joint training programs for prosecutors from both nations.

They also plan to organize thematic seminars on issues of mutual interest.

“This meeting reflects the Public Prosecution Service’s commitment to enhancing international cooperation in the judicial field,” the statement noted.

The collaboration is a sharing of expertise on best practices that will improve criminal justice performance and strengthen the rule of law in both countries.

The February 2023 MoU forms the foundation of this growing partnership, which addresses some of the most pressing criminal challenges facing both African nations in an increasingly interconnected world.
