Rabat – Abdellatif Hammouchi, Chief of Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), has delivered his opening remarks at the 93rd General Assembly of Interpol, renewing Morocco’s firm commitment towards contributing to strengthening global security cooperation.

In a speech before high-level delegations from different countries, Hammouchi welcomed attendees and emphasized the trust that the international community places in Morocco.

“Morocco’s commitment to hosting the 93rd session of Inteprol stems from its firm dedication to strengthening multilateral security cooperation and its active engagement in consolidating the international coalition against the threats posed by transnational organized crime,” Hammouchi said.

He emphasized that Morocco’s steadfast position draws its strength from King Mohammed VI, who considers security a “collective blessing and a shared responsibility.”

The DGS-DGST chief recalled that Morocco’s national security services have developed an integrated security and strategy approach to serve the nation and protect citizens.

He renewed Morocco’s firm position that collective security and shared responsibility are key to tackling security crises and crimes.

“Interpol plays a central role in facilitating international security cooperation, strengthening multilateral police work, and building bridges between law enforcement agencies across the world,” Hammouchi said.

The top security official also said that as virtual criminal networking channels and violent extremist threats continue to build, they require a shared security structure to tackle.

“Achieving our collective security requires modernizing our national security institutions, improving their operational tools, and meeting the rising expectations of citizens,” Hammouchi said.

The General Assembly in Marrakech will tackle different themes, including responding to emerging security threats, anticipating new forms of criminal risks, building high-level global policing capabilities for Interpol, and strengthening its regional presence and operational impact.

This is the second time Marrakech has hosted this event. In 2007, Marrakech also hosted the 76th session of the General Assembly held under the theme of “The Road to Security for a Safer Future.”

In addition to discussing how to be prepared for emerging threats, the General Assembly will also tackle greater inclusion for women in the police force and promote the ratification of the UN Convention Against Cybercrime.

It will also vote for new members of the Executive Committee, including the Interpol president, as their respective mandates come to an end.
