Rabat – Morocco’s weather office announced that a cold wave is expected to hit several provinces from Friday to Sunday.
The General Directorate of Meteorology announced today that freezing weather will reach -8 degrees in some provinces.
Temperatures between -8 and -3 will notably affect the provinces of Taza, Ouarzazate, and Taroudant.
The same weather will affect Tinghir, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, Midelt, Boulemane, and Sefrou.
The new weather alert is part of a series of notices the weather directorates issued recently, warning of freezing weather, snowfall, and rainfall.
Some provinces also witnessed heavy snowfall – the first of their kind in many years, including the Oriental region.
The snowfall came amid a cold wave that affected the eastern region of the country, amid a series of weather alerts forecasting snowfall in the region.
Weather experts explained the return of snow to the region by the passing of cold air masses, leading to a significant drop in temperatures as well as rain and snow across Morocco.
