Rabat – King Mohammed VI has granted today his Royal Pardon to 1,386 individuals convicted by various courts across the country, the Ministry of Justice announced in a statement.

The statement marks the commemoration of the presentation of the Independence Manifesto.

Sunday marks the 82nd anniversary of the presentation of the Independence Manifesto, the declaration submitted on January 11, 1944, that formally demanded the end of colonial rule and placed independence at the center of the country’s political struggle.
The beneficiaries of the Royal Pardon include people who are currently in detention.

Their number is estimated at 1,157 inmates. Of the inmates who are in detention, 23 received a pardon on the remainder of their prison or detention sentence.

About 1,133 benefited from a reduction of the prison or detention sentence.

One inmate benefited from the commutation of a life sentence into a fixed-term sentence.

The beneficiaries of the Royal Pardon also include 214 persons who are at liberty.

Sixty-nine of these beneficiaries received a pardon of the prison sentence or its remainder.

Nine individuals received a pardon of the prison sentence while maintaining the fine.

Around 124 people received a pardon of the fine, while 11 individuals received a pardon of both the prison sentence and the fine.

One person received a pardon of the fine and the remainder of the prison sentence.

The monarch also granted a Royal Pardon to inmates convicted in extremism and terrorism cases, who received approval after officially “expressing their attachment to the constants and sacred values of the nation and its national institutions, revising their ideological orientations, and rejecting extremism and terrorism,” according to the ministry.

There are 15 persons.

Nine of them received a pardon on the remainder of the custodial sentence.

Six of the convicts benefited from a reduction of the remainder of the custodial sentence.
