Jude Bellingham has revealed the reason behind his heated first-half argument with Lionel Messi during their 2-1 World Cup semi-final clash, strongly denying reports that attributed it to a personal issue between him and the Argentine ‘Flea’. Instead, the Real Madrid midfielder emphasized that the tense incident was just a part of the high-intensity atmosphere of the match.

The short confrontation sparked controversy among fans both during and after the match, especially since footage showed an angry Messi contrasted with a laughing Bellingham at the end of the exchange.

According to AS, when asked about the chat with Messi, Jude said: “Actually, we were just arguing about a refereeing decision, it wasn’t as big of a deal as people are making out to be.”

Bellingham added: “I thought there was a foul before, and he said, ‘What about the one they committed against me?’ And I said, ‘You’re tough enough to take it,’ you know what I mean.”

Bellingham expressed his admiration for Messi, sharing his joy to play against the Argentine legend despite the painful exit that ended England’s path to win the title that has been absent since 1966.

“Obviously, I’m on the losing side, which hurts a lot, but it’s a privilege to play against one of the best,” said the Real Madrid midfielder.

“It’s so heartbreaking. I wanted to be a part of the England team that has finally made it. To be in this place, telling the fans the same things they’ve probably heard for years and years, is truly heartbreaking. I’m sorry.”
