Rabat – Morocco has witnessed an influx of tourists, hosting more than 11.1 million travelers during the first nine months of this year.
This figure marks a remarkable increase in comparison to the 7.7 million tourists who visited the country during the same period in 2022.
The Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts of the Ministry of Economy and Finance provided insights outlining the current tourism landscape.
It attributes the resurgence to several key factors, emphasizing the profound impact of the Al-Haoz earthquake that shook the country in September. Remarkably, despite the seismic event, tourist inflows increased by a notable 7% in September compared to the same month last year.
The number of arrivals in September 2023 surged by approximately 9% compared to the pre-pandemic benchmark of September 2019, underlining the resilience and appeal of Morocco as a prime travel destination.
The report further highlighted the sustained growth in the number of overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments, showing a year-on-year increase of 53% by the end of August 2023.
In comparison to August 2019, the numbers still revealed a 2.6% rise in overnight stays, demonstrating the enduring charm of Morocco as a sought-after vacation spot.
Recently, the Kingdom was crowned the favorite destination of French travelers, according to the renowned French tour organizer, “Voyage Prive.”
The accolade was based on data obtained since Voyage Prive’s founding in 2006, which shows Morocco consistently ranking as a top destination.
