Rabat – As Israel’s offensive in Gaza continues, French President Emmanuel Macron is set to visit Tel Aviv on Tuesday for discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Reuters reported.

The visit follows in the footsteps of several other world leaders who have visited Israel in recent weeks since the new cycle of violence began, including US President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The recent violence escalated on October 7 after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, unleashing a barrage of rockets from Gaza and deploying fighters across the border.

This has resulted in Israel launching large-scale and deadly attacks on the Gaza Strip in retaliation, killing at least 4,700 Palestinians.

Israel’s relentless attacks caused severe damage in Gaza, destroying residential areas, schools, and hospitals.

The Israeli military bombed the Al Ahli Arabi hospital in Gaza, killing more than 500 individuals, including patients, wounded people, and displaced individuals seeking shelter.

Days later, Israel bombed a Greek Orthodox church where dozens had taken shelter.

In addition to its ruthless attacks on Gaza, Israel has cut off electricity, food, water, and fuel supplies to the besieged strip, further exacerbating the already dire situation.

In addition to the French president, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will also visit Israel this week.

Both Germany and France have been criticized for their biased position regarding the situation in Gaza. Critics argue that their strong support for Israel and portrayal of Palestinians as terrorists is hypocritical given the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

In addition, the banning of pro-Palestinian protests and threats of consequences for participants have drawn criticism for infringing on freedom of speech.
