Rabat — Morocco and France reaffirm their determination to continue boosting bilateral relations at all levels.

Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, held a meeting today with his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot in Paris on the sidelines of the 2nd International Nuclear Energy Summit.

“The meeting discussed bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual interest,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

The statement, however, provided no details about the meeting.

France and Morocco continue to share positive relations, marked by long-standing cooperation across all levels, including the economy.

In January, French President Emmanuel Macron described Franco-Moroccan ties as exceptional during an annual conference of French Ambassadors in Paris.

“In this disordered world, we believe in consolidating partnerships. We have defended it, and we have acted on it,” he said, citing Morocco among the solid foundations of French Mediterranean diplomacy.

He added that Paris and Rabat share a strong bond.

These relations were further strengthened following President Macron’s state visit to Morocco from October 28-30, 2024.

During the visit, King Mohammed VI and the French president chaired the signing of 22 agreements to further deepen French-Moroccan ties in a wide range of strategic areas.

The deals span different sectors from transport and energy to cultural cooperation.

The agreements included a contract between Morocco’s Railway Office and French multinational Alstom to supply high-speed trains and related support across Morocco.

The visit came a few months after France made a significant shift in its position on Western Sahara, fully recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.

The European country also emphasized how the Moroccan Autonomy Plan is the only feasible political solution able to end the dispute over Western Sahara.

Morocco and France trade cooperation stands at €15 billion, according to recent estimates.

In an interview with Morocco World News last year, French ambassador to Morocco Christophe Lecourtier said trade momentum between the two countries reflects the uniqueness of the Morocco-France partnership DNA.

He also recalled that France is Morocco’s top destination for its outbound investments.
