Rabat – The Moroccan embassy in Senegal urged Moroccans to show calm following the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to designate Morocco the winner of the 2025 AFCON.
The embassy issued a statement on Tuesday following the CAF Appeal Board decision, urging Moroccan nationals to exercise vigilance and a sense of responsibility following social media posts that raised concerns.
Recalling the spirit of brotherhood between Rabat and Dakar, CAF said “sport must remain a vehicle for bringing people together; fostering fraternity and mutual respect.”
“The embassy urges Moroccan residents in Senegal to act with calm and good judgment when interacting with their Senegalese brothers. This includes being cautious on digital platforms, avoiding provocative or inappropriate remarks,” the statement reads.
The embassy also warned against any escalation or tension that could undermine ties between the two countries, thanking Senegalese authorities for their attention to Moroccan nationals and their property amid the post-AFCON chaos.
It concluded the statement conveying confidence in the “civic sense and responsible conduct displayed by Moroccans residing in Senegal,” urging citizens to also continue embodying the values of respect, dignity, and coexistence.
On Tuesday, the CAF Appeal Board said Senegal forfeited the AFCON final.
CAF awarded a 3-0 victory to Morocco following an appeal from Morocco’s Football Federation. The announcement came after light sanctions, with the board now determined Senegal’s conduct breached tournament regulations.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Senegalese football federation said it it had reviewed the decision issued by CAF’s appeal jury in case DC23316.
The FSF described the ruling as “unjust and without precedent,” threatening that it will take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
