Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pledged the country’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

The ministry said today in a press release that this endorsement stems from the strong bonds between King Mohammed VI and the Saudi King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince

In addition, the ministry stressed that Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, is confident in Saudi Arabia’s capabilities to organize the global event, lauding the country’s progress and expertise in organizing significant events.

Saudi Arabia’s Football Federation (SAFF) announced yesterday its intention to submit its bid to host the 2034 World Cup.

The SAFF said that its bid aims to showcase Saudi Arabia’s intention to “deliver a world-class tournament” that draws inspiration from the country’s “ongoing social and economic transformation and deep-rooted passion for football.”

In addition, the federation said that the Saudi bid is underpinned by its increasing experience in hosting important football events, citing its plans to host the upcoming 2023 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

The SAFF made the announcement hours after FIFA revealed that Morocco, Spain, and Portugal will jointly host the tournament in 2030 and invited countries from Asia and Oceania to submit bids.

“Two continents – Africa and Europe – united not only in a celebration of football but also in providing unique social and cultural cohesion,” said FIFA in a statement, underlining the unifying power of football.

In addition to the three official hosts, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina will host one match each in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first-ever FIFA World Cup, which was hosted in Uruguay in 1930.
