Tangier Police Seize Over 6 Kilograms of Cocaine, Arrest 3 People

The Tangier judicial police arrested on October 4 three people in possession of over six kilograms of cocaine, according to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

Rabat – The Tangier judicial police arrested on October 4 three people in possession of over six kilograms of cocaine, according to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The cocaine was found in the homes of the three suspects. Of the suspects, one is wanted on federal drug trafficking charges, another has a lengthy criminal record, while the third is the wife of one of the two suspects.

During the searches that led to the arrest, investigators seized large sums of money in both national and foreign currency (in euros), as well as three cars, two motorcycles, a jet-ski, electronic scales, and a large bladed weapon, the DGSN statement detailed.

The three suspects have been taken into police custody for further investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Any additional investigation would be aiming to shed more light on the case and identify any national or international ramifications of the three suspects’ criminal network, the statement explained.

Amid a major controversy over Morocco’s drug trade that has recently made the rounds on social media, Moroccan police have busted numerous drug trafficking operations across the Kingdom.

One of the cocaine trafficking operations thwarted by police foiled was in 2020, when a 31-year-old man was allegedly involved in international drug trafficking.

Arrested by the judicial police of Tangier, the suspect was found in possession of more than one kilogram of cocaine hidden in his house as well as five electronic scales, seven cell phones, and a car.
