Rabat – The National Judicial Police Brigade (BNPJ) and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) seized on Tuesday a commercial vehicle loaded with over 4 tonnes of cannabis resin, according to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The driver took the motorway section between Bouznika and Mohammedia in the opposite direction of traffic and is being pursued by the police after abandoning the vehicle and fleeing the scene.
Inside the vehicle, investigators found over 4,000 kilograms of the drug in a total of 110 bales.
The BNPJ, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, has opened an investigation to arrest any possible accomplices in a drug trafficking network, and to shed light on any possible complicity at national and international level.
On September 2, two people were detained in possession of approximately two tonnes of Chira by Casablanca police after they thwarted a narcotics trafficking attempt by sea.
Carried out by the Casablanca Anti-Gang Brigade (BAG) in collaboration with the Sidi Bernoussi Judicial Police, operation investigators discovered 51 bundles containing over 1,800 kilograms of drugs prepared for sea transport.
In addition to drugs, police seized two boats, two engines, and several fuel drums.
