Rabat – Wydad AC’s defender Guilherme Ferreira is set  to undergo knee surgery after suffering a severe injury during the Botola Pro D1 Round 19 fixture against CODM Meknès.

Following a series of comprehensive medical tests, it has been confirmed that the Brazilian defender sustained a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.

The severity of the injury represents a likely end to his current campaign, leaving the Red Castle to navigate the remainder of the season without one of their primary defensive assets.

Ferreira is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days to address the damage, marking the first step in a long-term medical plan for the defender.

Once the operation is complete, he will immediately commence a structured rehabilitation and recovery phase designed to restore stability and strength to his right knee.

The Brazilian’s absence from the pitch is anticipated to last for more than six months. This timeline effectively sidelines him through the final stretch of the current campaign.

After the injury was confirmed, Ferreira reached out to fans via his Instagram story, stating: “Thank you for all the affection and support to the Wydad family. With your support, I will return stronger, God willing.”

The Brazilian defender later shared a second message expressing the weight of the setback: “A very sad day. Suffering such a serious injury is not easy. Thank you again for all the affection. I will return stronger, God willing.”

Ferreira arrived at Wydad AC in June 2025 on a short-term loan from Portuguese outfit FC Felgueiras, a move the Casablanca-based club made permanent in July 2025 by activating a buy clause of approximately €377,000 for the Brazilian defender.

Wydad AC currently sits in fourth place with 37 points after 20 matches. Their recent 1-0 derby win over Raja Casablanca has put them just two points behind the top spot, keeping them firmly in the hunt for the Botola Pro title.
