Rabat – French reports have revealed growing tension inside Olympique Marseille, with relations between sporting director Mehdi Benatia and head coach Habib Beye said to have considerably deteriorated as the club struggles through a disappointing season.
The atmosphere has shifted from optimism at the start of the campaign to frustration and conflict.Â
Marseille had entered the season with high expectations after a strong transfer window and qualification for the Champions League.Â
Instead, poor results in both domestic and European competitions have left the club far from its goals.
Benatia, who played a key role in appointing Beye after he departed from Rennes, is said to be deeply disappointed with the coach’s performance.Â
On the other side, Beye has grown frustrated with what he sees as Benatia’s repeated interference in technical matters.Â
Reports suggest the Senegalese coach dislikes the way the sporting director influences tactical decisions and even the starting lineup.
The disagreements have extended to recent internal measures. Sources claim Beye was not behind decisions such as the closure of the training camp before recent matches or the disciplinary action taken against striker Pierre‑Emerick Aubameyang for misconduct.
Despite these reports, Marseille has officially denied any direct conflict between the two men, insisting that the atmosphere within the squad remains normal.
Both Benatia and Beye are expected to leave the club at the end of the season. Benatia has already announced his intention to step down, while the incoming management is believed to have new plans for the sporting project that may not include the current coach.
