Rabat – The Moroccan women’s national volleyball team, the Atlas Lionesses, secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (Cameroon 2023) on Sunday, August 20. The team’s remarkable performance saw them emerge victorious against Rwanda, with a nail-biting 3-2 win during a match that had fans on the edge of their seats. 

This triumph came on the fifth day of the prestigious tournament, with the clash between the Moroccan Lionesses and the Rwandan team a true testament to the fierce competition that the African Nations Championship has come to be known for. 

The closely contested match showcased the skill, resilience, and teamwork of both sides, as they battled it out for supremacy on the volleyball court. The final scoreline of 3-2 solidified Morocco’s qualification for the quarter-finals, sparking celebrations among players and fans alike, the Moroccan state media reported.

This victory was a pivotal moment for the Moroccan team, as it allowed them to conclude the initial round of the tournament in second place. Leading up to the crucial match against Rwanda, the Lionesses had already demonstrated their prowess on the court. 

The team’s journey in the competition began with a commanding 3-0 win against Burkina Faso on the opening day. While they faced a setback against Uganda on the second day, with a 2-3 loss, the Lionesses bounced back on the third day, securing a convincing 3-0 victory against Lesotho. The fourth day presented a formidable challenge in the form of Kenya, against whom Morocco suffered a 3-1 defeat.

Despite the ups and downs the Moroccan Lionesses faced in the early stages of the tournament, their tenacity and fighting spirit propelled them to the quarter-finals. Looking ahead to the quarter-finals, the Moroccan team will undoubtedly draw inspiration from their recent accomplishments as they prepare to face formidable opponents on the road to potential continental glory.
