Rabat – An inmate at the Ait Melloul Prison has achieved the highest baccalaureate score among all prisoners in Morocco’s prison institutions, setting a record in the ordinary and makeup sessions of the national exam.
The inmate obtained a remarkable average of 17.19 in the literature major with French as an option, a source from the administration of Ait Melloul 1 prison told Moroccan news channel 2M.
The spokesperson indicated that the number of successful candidates in the baccalaureate exams for the ordinary and makeup sessions of the 2022/2023 academic year reached a total of 61 out of 138 candidates.
In the ordinary session, 46 candidates from the Ait Melloul prison passed the baccalaureate exams, with 21 candidates in the literature branch in French, 18 candidates in the Humanities branch in French, and seven candidates in Islamic Studies.
Meanwhile, a total of 15 candidates passed the exam in the makeup session, with one candidate in Physical Sciences, six candidates in Literature (in French), and eight candidates in the Humanities branch.
Among the successful inmates, 20 received Grade Point Averages (GPA) ranging from “fairly good” to “very good,” based on the Moroccan grading system.

The spokesperson concluded that the administration of the Ait Melloul 1 prison, in coordination with the regional directorate of the Ministry of National Education in Inzegane Ait Melloul and civil society associations, took proactive measures to assist the inmates in their educational pursuits.
This included providing them with access to additional classes to support their preparation for the exams.
In addition, the prison institution has established a library, equipped with a reading hall, for the benefit of said inmates, as well as providing “all necessary conditions to facilitate the mental and cognitive preparation” of the candidates, 2M reported.
On a national level, a total of 633 inmates out of 1,372 have passed the baccalaureate exam, according to the Moroccan Ministry of National Education, Primary Education, and Sport.
