Over 40,000 New Companies Debut in Morocco in Five Months

Morocco witnessed the creation of an impressive 40,000 new businesses during the first five months of 3023, according to a report from the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).

Rabat – Morocco witnessed the creation of an impressive 40,000 new businesses during the first five months of 2023, according to a report from the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).

The OMPIC data shows that these newly established companies were divided between legal entities and natural persons. Out of the total, over 27,000 businesses were registered as legal entities, while a little over 13,000 were registered as individual entrepreneurs.

Analyzing the sectors contributing to this surge in business creation, the report highlights the dominant role of the trade sector, accounting for 36% of the new companies.

Following closely behind are the construction and public works (BTP) sector and real estate activities, representing 18% of the total.

Transportation, industries, hotels and restaurants, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), agriculture and fishing, and financial activities contributed 7%, 6%, 2%, 1%, and 0.9%, respectively.

Examining the legal structure of the newly established businesses, the majority of the companies, comprising 63%, were registered as single-member limited liability companies (SARLAU).

Meanwhile, 36% were categorized as limited liability companies (SARL), while joint-stock companies (SA) and general partnership companies (SNC) accounted for 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively.

Regionally, Casablanca-Settat continued as the primary hub for entrepreneurial activity, with a staggering 11,700 new companies established in the region.

Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima followed closely behind with 5,900 new businesses, while Rabat-Salé-Kénitra recorded 4,791.

Other notable regions included Marrakech-Safi (4,044), Fès-Meknès (2,868), Oriental (2,542), Souss-Massa (2,500), Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (2,045), Beni Mellal-Khenifra (1,290), Draa-Tafilalet (1,221), Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab (1,015), and Guelmim Oued Noun (324).

The number of new companies created at the end of the first five months of 2023 is especially impressive given that in 2022, a total of 93,272 new companies debuted in Morocco.
