Rabat – Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi has been recognized as one of the most valuable defenders at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, underlining his status as one of the tournament’s biggest stars.

According to Transfermarkt’s latest market valuations, the Paris Saint-Germain full-back is valued at €80 million, placing him among the most expensive defenders competing in the World Cup and making him the highest-valued Moroccan defender in the competition.

Hakimi shares third place in the overall ranking with PSG teammate Nuno Mendes and Barcelona youngster Pau Cubarsí. Only France’s William Saliba, valued at €100 million, and Ecuadorian defender Willian Pacho, also worth €80 million, are ahead of him in the standings.

The ranking highlights Hakimi’s continued rise as one of the world’s premier defenders following another impressive season with Paris Saint-Germain.

Known for his pace, attacking contributions and leadership, the 27-year-old remains one of Morocco’s most important players heading into the tournament.

A well-timed recognition

His inclusion among the competition’s most valuable defenders comes at a time when expectations are high for the Atlas Lions. Morocco enters the World Cup looking to build on its historic run to the semi-finals in Qatar 2022, becoming the first African and Arab nation to reach that stage of the competition.

The Atlas Lions have been drawn into Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland and Haiti, and will open their campaign against Brazil on June 13 in New York.
