Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) president Fouzi Lekjaa has rejected claims that Morocco enjoys significant influence within the Confederation of African Football (CAF), insisting that the country has no representation in the organization’s various committees.

Speaking during an interview on Al Jazeera 360’s program “Maghareb,” Lekjaa said allegations regarding Morocco’s influence inside African football’s governing body do not reflect reality.

“Morocco does not have a single employee within CAF, nor does it have any representation in its various committees,” Lekjaa said.

The FRMF chief questioned the basis of such claims, arguing that Morocco’s role within CAF is often limited to hosting competitions that other countries are unwilling to organize.

“What influence are you talking about? The advantages CAF has given us in exchange for this alleged influence are that Morocco hosts tournaments that no one else wants to organize,” he added.

Only one committee

Lekjaa explained that Morocco chairs only one CAF committee, the Finance Committee, a role he holds because of his professional background in the financial sector.

“Morocco chairs only one committee, the Finance Committee, which was assigned to me because of my professional experience in finance. If this is considered influence, then even this committee does not qualify for such a description,” he said.

The FRMF president concluded by reiterating that Morocco does not take part in managing CAF committees and has no membership across the confederation’s decision-making structures.
