Rabat – Paris FC are considering former Morocco head coach Walid Regragui as a possible replacement for Antoine Kombouaré, whose future at the French club remains uncertain.
According to French sports newspaper L’Equipe, Paris FC officials recently met Regragui as part of their preparations in case Kombouaré leaves the club.
The Parisian side also held talks with former Strasbourg and Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior, while Bruno Genesio had previously been considered for the position.
No agreement has been reached with Regragui, and the club has not announced a decision regarding Kombouaré.
L’Equipe reported that Regragui was impressed by the project presented to him by Paris FC.
The 50-year-old has never coached in Ligue 1, meaning the position would give him his first experience managing a club in France’s top division.
Regragui was born in France and spent much of his playing career there, representing clubs including Toulouse, Ajaccio, Dijon and Grenoble.
He later began his coaching career in Morocco, where he built his reputation through successful spells with FUS Rabat and Wydad Casablanca.
In 2022, he guided Wydad to both the Moroccan league title and the CAF Champions League trophy.
Historic spell with Morocco
Regragui became Morocco’s national team coach shortly before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
He led the Atlas Lions to the semifinals, making Morocco the first African and Arab country to reach the last four of the competition.
During their historic run, Morocco defeated Belgium, Spain and Portugal before losing to France in the semifinal.
Regragui later took Morocco to the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which the country hosted.
He stepped down from his position in March 2026, saying the national team needed a new vision and fresh energy ahead of the World Cup.
Kombouaré’s future remains unclear
Kombouaré took charge of Paris FC in February and helped improve the team’s results during the closing part of the season.
Although his contract reportedly runs until 2027, negotiations over an additional year have yet to produce an agreement.
Paris FC are therefore assessing possible alternatives, with a final decision expected in the coming days.
Regragui remains one of several candidates, but his experience in African football and his historic World Cup run with Morocco have made him an attractive option for the club.
