Recent form

The defending champions started their Group J campaign in dominant fashion, securing a comfortable 3-0 victory against Algeria. The win highlights their trademark defensive stability and quick transitions. The Albiceleste remain on an exceptional run of form ahead of the clash at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Austria Team News

Injuries / Suspensions

Despite a broken jaw injury that he sustained during their game against Jordan, Stefan Posch is still expected to be available today against defending champions Argentina.

Recent form

Ralf Rangnick’s side successfully marked their long-awaited return to the global stage with a hard-fought 3-1 win over debutants Jordan in Group J. The victory showcased their intense tactical identity, built entirely around aggressive counter-pressing and fluid vertical transitions.

Likely XI: A. Schlager;  K. Laimer; P. Lienhart;  D. Alaba;  P. Mwene; P. Seiwald;  X. Schlager; Schmid;  C. Chukwuemeka; 9. M. Sabitzer;  S. Kalajdzic.

What to expect?

Argentina is widely expected to dominate possession and rely on Messi’s creativity to break down Austria’s defensive shape. Scaloni’s side will look to control the tempo and exploit spaces between the lines.

Austria, meanwhile, is likely to press aggressively and attack through transitions and wide areas. Rangnick’s side showed strong physical intensity in the opener and could trouble Argentina with aerial duels and counterattacks.

Prediction: Argentina 2-1 Austria.
