Rabat – Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi has backed Brahim Diaz following his performance against Haiti, insisting he has full faith in the forward even though he hasn’t hit his best form yet.
Speaking at the post-match press conference following Morocco’s 4-2 victory over Haiti at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, Ouahbi stressed that Diaz remains central to Morocco’s long-term ambitions and competitive goals.
Pointing to the forward’s impressive track record, the coach underlined the high expectations surrounding the star: “We wanted to build a competitive team. Brahim was the top scorer at the recent Africa Cup of Nations and plays for Real Madrid; he is a great player who will bring a lot to the table for us.”
Ouahbi made it clear that while expectations remain high, the team stands fully behind the forward.
“We expect more from him because he is one of the best players. He provided two assists in the first two matches, and I am not blaming anyone. We will give him the support and confidence he needs so he can be effective in the next match and help us secure qualification.”
The match took place on Wednesday at the Atlanta stadium in Georgia, where Morocco secured a crucial victory over Haiti to qualify second in Group C.
Morocco’s 4-2 victory began with an early setback when Haiti took the lead through a Yassine Bounou own goal, before Achraf Hakimi equalized for the Atlas Lions.
Wilson Isidor briefly restored Haiti’s advantage with a spectacular long-range strike, but Ismael Saibari leveled the score at 2-2 just before halftime.
Second-half substitutes Soufiane Rahimi and Gessime Yassine then struck late to complete the comeback and secure Morocco’s spot in the knockout stage.
With their spot in the knockout stages secured, the Atlas Lions will now face the winners of Group F in the Round of 32 as they look to extend their tournament run.
