Rabat – Morocco’s weather authority has warned of a heatwave, high temperatures, and strong winds with localized sandstorms affecting several parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday.

In an updated orange-level weather alert, the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) said temperatures will reach between 38°C and 41°C from Monday to Wednesday in several provinces, including Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khenifra, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Ouazzane, Khouribga, Sidi Bennour, Essaouira, Khemisset, Meknes, Safi, Agadir-Ida-Outanane, and Inezgane-Ait Melloul.

Even hotter conditions are expected in other areas, where temperatures could climb to 41°C to 44°C. These include Kalaat Sraghna, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Smara, Tata, Taroudant, Oued Ed-Dahab, Settat, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Zagora, and Errachidia.

The weather service also forecast hot conditions on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures between 39°C and 43°C in Chtouka Ait Baha, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan. Similar temperatures are expected in Tarfaya and Laayoune on Tuesday.

In addition to the heat, strong winds of 75 to 80 kilometers per hour are expected to affect Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Laayoune, and Es-Smara from Monday morning until 11 p.m. on Tuesday. The winds may trigger localized sandstorms and reduce visibility in affected areas.

DGM expects the hot weather to continue over the coming days, particularly in the Souss region, southern Morocco, the southeast, and the northern and central Atlantic plains.

Strong winds are likely to continue across Tangier, the Atlas Mountains, the central Atlantic coast, the Oriental region, the southeast, and the southern provinces, with blowing dust expected in desert areas. Temperatures are also forecast to rise further in the southern provinces toward the end of the week.

The DGM urged residents to take precautions during the hottest hours of the day, avoid direct exposure to the sun, stay hydrated, and follow official weather updates for the latest forecasts and warnings.
