Marrakech – Morocco has signed a contract with German defense company Rheinmetall for the supply of seven highly mobile field hospitals, the company announced in a press release on Friday.
The deal was finalized in June 2026 through the subsidiary Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH. Its value falls in the mid double-digit million-euro range, with delivery scheduled between 2027 and 2028.
One field hospital is designated for Morocco’s National Defense Administration. The remaining six are earmarked for the Ministry of the Interior. A local medical equipment distributor will handle the processing and delivery of the systems to Morocco.
Rheinmetall developed the field hospitals based on medical solutions it originally developed for and field-tested by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They were designed to withstand severe transportation challenges and extreme military environmental conditions, the press release stated.
The systems are characterized by their high mobility. When deployed, they are fully mounted on trucks and can be expanded with military tents for off-truck operations. Assembly and dismantling times are extremely short.
At the core of each hospital is an operating theater complex. It consists of three self-sufficient functional units: a modern operating theater, an intensive care unit, and a sterilization facility. These units are built as specialized containers with extendable sections that form a fully functional medical treatment center when set up.
The core complex is surrounded by patient accommodation and standard facilities, including an X-ray station, a pharmacy, and a laboratory. Specialist departments round out the hospital with an eye clinic, a dentistry unit, an ENT department, and a CT scanner.
The hospitals are designed for self-sufficient operation in both field and urban settings. They function independently for a defined period using their own power, water, and oxygen supplies. Military accommodation and sanitary facilities are also included in the scope of delivery.
Armin Krenn, Managing Director of Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH, described the deal as strategically and humanitarianly significant. “We are delighted to have secured this follow-up order for our field hospitals,” Krenn said, adding that the contract opens “cooperation in the North African region.”
The systems “not only save lives in military conflicts but also make a crucial contribution to maintaining acute care when local and stationary hospitals are unable to operate,” he noted.
Krenn said the solution was developed jointly with Morocco for “the Royal Medical Service.”
The contract marks Rheinmetall’s continued expansion in the international market for mobile medical facilities. The company cast the deal as a significant sales success in North Africa.
