Agadir – Morocco welcomed nearly 9.4 million tourists by the end of June 2026, up 6% compared to the same period last year, according to the latest figures from the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).

The DEPF said the country’s tourism sector maintained its strong momentum during the first half of the year, supported by sustained growth across its main international source markets and rising tourism revenues.

Among Morocco’s largest source markets, arrivals from France increased by 9%, while Germany recorded a 14% rise. Tourist numbers also grew by 9% from Belgium, 10% from the Netherlands, 6% from Italy, and 32% from Poland.

The United Kingdom and the United States also posted positive growth, with visitor arrivals increasing by 4% and 9%.

The report also pointed to strong economic performance within the tourism sector during the first quarter of 2026. Tourism’s added value expanded by 8.1%, following an 8.7% increase during the same period in 2025.

Tourist accommodation activity also continued to improve. Overnight stays in classified tourist accommodation establishments rose 9% by the end of May compared to the same period last year.

Several destinations outperformed the national average, led by Ouarzazate with a 24% increase in overnight stays. Rabat followed with 18% growth, while Agadir recorded a 13% rise.

Casablanca and Marrakech posted increases of 12% and 10%. Overnight stays also grew in Tangier and Errachidia, both up 8%, followed by Fez at 7%, Essaouira at 6%, and Al Haouz at 4%.

The sector’s financial performance also remained strong. Travel receipts reached nearly MAD 53.8 billion ($5.9 billion) by the end of May 2026, reflecting a 14.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

According to the DEPF, the continued growth in visitor arrivals, overnight stays, and tourism revenues reinforces the resilience of Morocco’s tourism industry and its contribution to the country’s broader economic growth.
