Agadir – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level weather alert, warning that a new heat wave will affect several provinces across the country from Sunday through Tuesday, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 47°C.
According to the DGM, the most intense heat is forecast in the provinces of Oued Ed-Dahab, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Taroudant, Zagora, Errachidia, Aousserd, and Boujdour, where temperatures are expected to range between 45°C and 47°C.
The weather authority also forecast temperatures between 42°C and 45°C in the provinces of Marrakech, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, and Kelaat Sraghna during the same period.
In addition, hot weather with temperatures ranging from 42°C to 45°C is expected on Sunday and Monday in Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Khenifra, Taourirt, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, Guercif, and Taza, as well as the inland areas of the provinces of Laayoune, Tarfaya, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan.
Meanwhile, temperatures between 39°C and 42°C are forecast for Sunday and Monday in Sidi Bennour, Chtouka-Aït Baha, Inezgane-Aït Melloul, Sidi Ifni, Tiznit, Essaouira, Driouch, Nador, Oujda-Angad, and Safi.
The DGM urged residents in the affected areas to remain cautious during the heat wave, particularly during the hottest hours of the day, and to follow official weather updates as temperatures remain significantly above seasonal averages.
