Rabat – Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi expressed his satisfaction with the national team’s victory over Gabon, while acknowledging that the Atlas Lions still have some details to improve.
Ouahbi said he was pleased with the players’ overall performance and viewed the victory as an important start to Morocco’s qualifying campaign.
The coach also addressed Brahim Diaz’s situation after the Real Madrid star arrived at camp with some physical concerns. The medical staff conducted examinations and found no serious health issue.
Ouahbi said Diaz is happy and eager to play, adding that the technical staff will manage his situation carefully.
The coach also explained his decision to start Yasser Zabiri, pointing to the forward’s strong performances with his club. Ouahbi said the coaching staff was pleased with Zabiri’s presence and the contribution he can make to the national team.
Ali Maamar also received recognition from the Morocco’s coach after making his senior international debut. Ouahbi said the player understood what was expected of him and delivered a good performance.
Defense area
In defense, Ouahbi highlighted the partnership between Issa Diop and Nayef Aguerd. He said the two center-backs showed good understanding and indicated that Morocco could continue with the same defensive pairing in upcoming matches.
Ouahbi also explained the slower tempo during certain periods of the game, attributing it to Gabon’s decision to sit deep. The approach, he said, made it more difficult for Morocco to reach the opposition goal and affected the rhythm of the match.
Despite the areas that still need improvement, Ouahbi insisted that he was satisfied with both the performance and the result.
The coach now wants Morocco to build on the victory while continuing to work on the details ahead of the team’s next challenges.
