Rabat – Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech suffered his second consecutive defeat with Brazilian side Botafogo on Thursday, despite delivering a strong individual performance in his second appearance for the club.
Ziyech played 80 minutes as Botafogo lost 2-1 to Vasco da Gama at home in the 29th round of the Brazilian league.
The match marked Ziyech’s second appearance for Botafogo since joining the club. His debut came before the international break, when he played in the second half of Botafogo’s 2-0 away defeat to Mirassol in the 28th round.
Despite the defeat, the Moroccan midfielder produced a more convincing display against Vasco. He received a rating of 7.6, the highest among Botafogo players in the match.
Ziyech also played a more central role in Botafogo’s attacking midfield rather than operating primarily as a right winger.
His performance provided further positive signs regarding his attacking contribution as he continues to adapt to Brazilian football.
However, his individual display was not enough to prevent Botafogo from suffering another defeat.
Following the loss, Botafogo remain 13th in the Brazilian league standings with 35 points after 29 rounds.
The Brazilian league consists of 38 rounds, leaving Botafogo with nine matches remaining in the campaign.
